Grade 6 Course Registration

  • PACT Compass 6

    Course Numbers: 901, 902
    Semesters: 2

    Every student will be enrolled in PACT Compass. In this course, students will refine their study skills and develop their character. Advisory also serves as a place for students to track their academic progress and register for upcoming classes. This course is graded, includes a service project, and counts toward students’ GPAs.

  • Language Arts 6

    Course Numbers: 1001, 1002
    Semesters: 2

    Language Arts 6 focuses on fundamental skills in communication, creative thinking, and reading. Students will strengthen grammatical skills through practical exercises and apply them to regular composition assignments. The curriculum introduces literature for its informative, entertaining, and life-lesson aspects, aiming to develop a foundational appreciation for reading and literature. The course provides a supportive environment for students to develop essential communication skills without being overly enthusiastic.

  • Math 6

    Course Numbers: 3001, 3002
    Semesters: 2

    This course introduces new problem-solving models and methods. Students will develop mathematical tools and learn alternative approaches to analyzing situations. The focus is on making connections, discovering relationships, identifying problem-solving strategies, and articulating thought processes. By the end of the course, students will possess a set of mathematical tools for solving problems, laying a foundation for future math studies.

     

     

    Math Course Sequence

    Students progress through math courses based on their individual readiness and the completion of prior courses. To meet high school graduation requirements, all students must complete Geometry and Algebra 2.

  • Earth Science 6

    Course Numbers: 4001, 4002
    Semesters: 2

    This course is designed to provide students with an overview of the common concepts in earth science, including meteorology, geology, astronomy, hydrology, the impact of humans on the earth, and resource utilization and conservation. These concepts are investigated through observing, collecting, summarizing, analyzing, and presenting the results of scientific investigations so that students can develop the appropriate skills in science as inquiry.

  • Minnesota History 6

    Course Numbers: 2001, 2002
    Semesters: 2

    Minnesota History emphasizes state history, covering topics such as citizenship, government, economics, and geography. Students explore significant people, issues, and events in Minnesota from early settlement to the present. The curriculum includes studying founding documents, civic and economic principles, and connections between disciplines to understand the impact of policies on daily life. Students also create detailed maps of Minnesota and engage in a historical inquiry project.

    Semesters: 2

    Students will acquire knowledge and skills to understand the importance of building and maintaining fitness for health. They will assess their personal fitness levels and establish goals for improvement. Engaging in activities aligned with the overall goal of fitness and cultivating a healthy lifestyle.

    This course introduces students to a variety of creative projects designed to build foundational art skills and concepts. Students explore and apply the elements of art and principles of design through hands-on activities that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and self-expression. Emphasis is placed on developing confidence with materials and techniques while strengthening skills that support learning across other subject areas.

  • Digital Discoveries 6

    Course Number: 5202
    Semesters: 1

    Enhance your computer skills! Dive deeper into using specific computer apps, strengthen your typing skills, and learn more about digital citizenship. Digital Discoveries also introduces students to coding in two areas: games and animations, and web design. Students create web pages, games, and interactive stories using cause-and-effect relationships and problem-solving techniques. This class regularly reinforces problem-solving, collaboration, creativity, communication, and critical thinking skills as students are immersed in project-based learning.

  • Independent Study 6

    This course provides motivated students the opportunity to pursue an area of personal interest through self-directed learning. Students begin by submitting a proposal outlining their intended topic, learning goals, and semester plan, which must be approved by the online coordinator. Throughout the course, students maintain regular check-ins with the coordinator to track progress, culminating in a final project through which they demonstrate their learning in a format of their choosing.
